Lex Noteboom
Lex has been writing stories from the moment he could hold a pen. While studying modern history in Amsterdam, he stopped emulating his influences and started finding his own voice. Failing to find a publisher or agent, he went into paid employment and continued to write on the weekends. But the urge to write every day was too strong. And so after a few years, he quit his job, and started looking for a way to launch his career in a less conventional way.
THE DECA TAPES
Since sending unsolicited manuscripts around wasn't yielding anything, he decided to turn one of his stories into a fiction podcast - an audio drama. He wrote the script for THE DECA TAPES, a thriller about ten people locked into a space together, trying to find out why they are there. After finishing the script, he produced the show from his bedroom on a shoestring budget. He directed the voice actors, created the sound design and composed the soundtrack for the podcast. THE DECA TAPES was a gamble that took more than a year to complete. But it paid off: the show won several international awards, including a Lovie Award for Best European fiction podcast. All that attention earned Lex his first book deal.
"Lex seemingly came out of nowhere as a storyteller with uncompromising ambition, delivering a unique and mysterious story with THE DECA TAPES, about th unreliability of our own memories."
- Claire Graves, President The Webby Awards
The Man with a Thousand Faces
Lex spent three years working on his ambitious debut novel, THE MAN WITH A THOUSAND FACE. The book tells the story of a Dutch family trapped in the Caucasus, where a mysterious rebel leader starts an uprising. The book is set in Kazichia, a fictional country – Lex created the history, topography, cultures and political landscape for Kazichia. The rights were sold to Orion Books in London, even before publication. In the Netherlands, the book won numerous awards, amongst which the Hebban Thriller Award 2024. And it was named Book of the Year by the countries biggest newspaper. All this attention also resulted in the book being sold to Union Square & Co in New York and Lex signing to the DHH Literary Agency in London.
" Deep in the blood-soaked Caucasus, three families fight for absolute power. With stunning betrayals and more twists than a sack full of snakes, it is a riveting story, more modern than tomorrow,. A stunning debut. "
Terry Hayes
I Will Break The World
Almost exactly three years after his debut, Lex's second book will be published: I WILL BREAK THE WORLD. A story about three generations who together have to solve an impossibly big mystery. A story that begins in 2025 and ends more than a hundred years in the future. An exciting book full of danger and intrigue, which takes place throughout Europe, but also a book about people who lose control of their lives and try to make sense of it.
